Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects and accumulation of sodium arsenite on liver and kidney in mice. Methods Subchronic toxicity experiment was applied. The mouse were randomly separated into four groups of 40 mice, including control group(C),low dose arsenic poisoning group(L),middle dose arsenic poisoning group(M),and high dose arsenic poisoning group(H).Mouse of control group were fed with distilled water.Mouse in group L,group M and group H were fed with water which was dissolved with sodium arsenic at the concentrations of 0.125 mg/kg,0.5 mg/kg and 2.0 mg/kg.The morphological changes of liver and kidney were observed by light microscopy. With continues toxicum used 90 d.The arsenic contents in organs were detected with atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Results The pathological changes were found in the liver and kidney of mice exposured in drinking water with aresnite.Compared with control group, the arsenic contents were higher in low, middle and high arsenic groups in liver and kidney(P0.01).Conclusion Exposured to arsenite in drinking water 90 days, mouse liver and kidney were injured. It indicated that the accumulation of arsenic in the organs causes the damage of liver and kidney in mice.
