An Exploration of Fuzhou Magistrates in North Song Dynasty

Baiheliang inscriptions and carvings are very important documents for the analysis of Fuzhou in Song Dynasty.By analyzing and collating the documents about Fuzhou magistrates recorded in the inscriptions and carvings and other ancient books,the writer of this paper explores and compares the basic information about 17 Fuzhou magistrates in North Song Dynasty which reveals how the magistrates governed the states and counties,how they dealt with the relationships between Fuzhou and the surrounding nationalities,and how they administered the degraded officials to Fuzhou.Meanwhile,the fact that the magistrates of Fuzhou were from Sichuan Province reflects an obvious change in the selection of officials in Sichuan in North Song dynasty.
