Abstract

Yuan,as an ancient functional word,has been scarcely used after the Spring and Autumn period,so the meaning and usage is difficult to understand.Till Qing dynasty,Wang Yinzhi worked out possible explanations on that,which was described in Word Meaning of Classics.The explanation of yuan in the second volume is analyzed in this paper.It is pointed out that there are three inadequate points:some items that are supposed to be classified are not done;some lexical words are wrongly taken as functional word;some single words are wrongly interpreted as ambiguities.
