Abstract

There are three connected claims about the interrelation of psychology and neuroscience that occur in discussions within the circle of psychology:cognitive neuroscience can never give a complete account of the psychology of a person because it is reductionistic;neuroscience can only show correlations between neural events and cognitive or behavioral events;such factors as culture, historical situation, are the most relevant in understanding human knowledge and behavior. The paper gives critical demenstrations for these claims. We should study psychology in variable ways.Neuroscience trys to demonstrate not only the connection between neuroal events and cognitive or behavioral events, but also the neuroal mechanism of cognitive or behavioral events;cognitive neuroscience does not offer direct insights into culture. It does not mean that biology(neurobiology, neuroscience and cognitive neuroscience)is not relevant to understanding how culture evolves or how history develops.
