Abstract
Objective To study the effect of exercise on cognitive function and blood-brain barrier in diabetic rats.Methods Thirty female SD rates were randomly chosen and divided into three groups:normal control group(NC,n=10),diabetic group(n=10),and diabetic exercise group(n=10).The rat models of diabetes mellitus were established by intraperitioneal injection of streptozotocin.Diabetic exercise rats were additionally trained by swimming once every day for three months.The following indexes were measured before treatment and three months after the establishment of rat models.Blood glucose level and weight of diabetic rats were examined.The learning and memory function was evaluated by Morris maze.Fibronectin(FN) expression in hippocampus of rats was detected with immunohistochemical method.Results After all rat models were established,the level of blood glucose in rats in diabetic group and diabetic exercise group was significantly increased in comparison with that of rats in NC group(P0.01).Compared with NC group,the learning and memory function in rats of diabetic group was significantly decreased(P0.01),and learning and memory function in rats of diabetic exercise group was remarkably increased in comparison with that of rats in diabetic group.Compared with NC group,the expression level of FN in hippocampus in rats of diabetic group was significantly increased(P0.01),but no significant difference was found in expression level of FN between rats in diabetic group and diabetic exercise group(P0.05).Conclusion The results indicate that exercise can improve the learning and memory function of diabetic rats,and protect the blood-brain barrier of diabetic rats.
