Effect of Mibefradil on Gut Injury Following Intestinal Ischemia Reperfusion in Rats

Abstract

【Objective】To investigate the effect of Mibefradil on gut injury following intestinal ischemia reperfusion in rats.【Methods】 By using rat model of intestine I/R injury,30 male SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups(n=10 in each group): sham-operation group(S),I/R group(I/R) and mibefradil group(M).The contents of malondialdehyde(MDA),the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase(CAT) in intestinal mucosa were measured respectively.Chiu's count was used to assess the changes in intestinal pathological morphology.【Results】 In group I/R,MDA values were significantly increased compared to those in group S and M(P0.01 and P0.05,respectively).SOD and CAT values were significantly decreased in group I/R compared to group S and M(P0.01 and P0.05,respectively).The intestinal injury score increased significantly in group I/R and M compared to group S(P0.01 and P0.05,respectively).However this increase was reduced in group M compared to group I/R(P0.05).【Conclusion】Pretreatment with mibefradil has protective effect on intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats,which may be attributed to the decrease of reactive oxygen species(ROS) and restoration of intestinal microcirculatory blood flow.
