Abstract
The concept of metropolitan coordi- nating region has been used for about a half century, but there is no commonly accepted understanding of the concept. However, there are other similar concepts including metropolitan area, metropolitan interlocking region and urban agglomeration, etc. The translation partly results in the confusion of the concepts. In China, not a few planning and studies of metropolitan coordination regions are made. Therefore it is critical to differentiate the concepts.
