Abstract

Objective To explore the application value of serum procalcitonin(PCT) in the treatment of patients with acute exacerbation of chronic pulmonary heart disease( AECPHD). Methods 424 patients with AECPHD were randomly divided into the PCT group( n = 210) and the control group( n = 214). The main observation indexes included the days of antibiotics use, duration of hospital stay, clinical efficacy, aggravated cases and mortality. Results The time of antibiotic use, duration of hospital stay and double infection cases were less in the PCT group than in the control group. There was no significant difference on total clinical effective rate, mortality and aggravated cases between the two groups. Conclusion The antibiotics use based on PCT level is effective in the treatment of patents with AECPHD,which can shorten the duration of antibiotics use and reduce the unnecessary antibiotic exposure.
