Abstract
Applied niobic acid as catalyst and cyclohexane as dehydrator, the benzyl propionate was directly synthesized with propionic acid and benzyl alcohol. The effects of the amount of catalyst and cyclohexane, the molar ratio of benzyl alcohol to propionic acid, and reaction time on the yield of benzyl propionate had been investigated.Under the optimum reaction conditions, the yield of benzyl propionate could reach 87.9%.
