Abstract
Macrophages in the body participate in non-specific defense(congenital immunity)and specific defense(acquired immunity).Iron metabolism by macrophages also plays a crucial role in an organism's immunity.In basic metabolic pathways,iron is an indispensable auxiliary factor for an organism and pathogens.Iron plays an important role in innate immunity,and it can generate toxic oxygen and nitrogen intermediates.Once a pathogen invades an organism,it can compete with the host for iron in order to sustain its metabolism.This paper summarizes advances in the study of iron metabolism by macrophages and the effects of iron metabolism in organism immunity.
