Abstract

Objective To report a new method for stapedectomy and its results Method Used temporal fascia to close oval window by putting the fascia on the surface of the oval niche instead of plugging it into the niche, which prevent the fascia from entering the vestibules and compressing the saccules; used the patients own stapes to connect the incus and the fascia to avoid incus erosion Results Of 22 cases undergone this modification of stapedectomy, closure of the air bone gap to within 10 dB (air bone gap average in 500, 1 000, 2 000, 4 000 Hz) were found in 21 cases and remained the same results in 1~3 years follow up Conclusion The modification of the stapedectomy procedure is a simple method with excellent results, being worth studying in the future
