Abstract
Objective To investigate the distribution of tryptase-positive cells in the rejected kidneys at different time points after transplantation. Methods The rejected kidneys (8 days-7 years after transplantation) were stained using anti-tryptase monoclonal antibody immunohistochemical method and toluidine blue staining. Results At all time points, more mast cells were observed in rejected kidneys than that in normal kidneys. The number of the mast cells in rejected kidneys was increased with the increase of transplantation time. The mast cells in 7-year group were significantly higher than those in 1-2 years group and 5-6 years group (P0.01). The result of toluidine blue staining was consistent with that of tryptase immunohistochemical staining, and the tryptase immunohistochemical method was more sensitive. Conclusion Mast cells may be involved in rejection of kidney transplantation and this reaction may result in fibrosis of kidney tissue.
