Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the seizure recognition of patients with epileptic seizures.Methods: The recognition of patients was verbally investigated at 1 hour after seizure occurred.The seizure types and duration were evaluated by VEEG(video electroencephalogram).Statistic analysis has been performed.Results: Sixty-nine seizures were observed in 39 patients underwent VEEG monitoring and 37(53.6%) of all seizures were unrecognized.89.3% of complex partial seizures(CPS),58.8% of generalized tonic-clonic seizure(GTCS) and 8.3% of simple partial seizures(SPS) were unrecognized(P0.05).75.8% of seizures with onset EEG changes in left hemisphere and 33.3% of seizures with onset EEG changes in right hemisphere were unrecognized(P0.05).Conclusion: More than half of the seizures were not recognized by patients.The degree of impaired consciousness among different seizure types as well as seizure localization could possibly affect self-recognition of seizures.
