Abstract
Based on the statistical data of Chongqing in 2005,the ecological footprint and available ecological capacity of the city were calculated.The per capita ecological footprint was 1.547 841 hm2,per capita ecological capacity was 0.368 038 hm2,and ecological deficit was 1.179 803 hm2.Compared with the average national level,Chongqing's per capita ecological footprint was 0.427 841 hm2 higher and its per capita ecological capacity was 0.431 962 hm2 lower.It's ecological deficit was 2.95 times than the average national level.These figures indicate that there is a severe ecological deficit in the system of ecological economy of Chongqing.We must take suitable measures to lessen the pressure of the ecological system.
