Abstract

In this paper the characteristics of the Late Devonian to the Early Carboniferous strata of the Guangzhou area are dealt with and the fossil plants from these strata are studied.According to the distribution of these fossils and their compositional characteristics, the Late Devonian to Early Carboniferous flora is roughly subdivided into four assemblages, namely: 1) late Late Devonian Lepidodendropsis hirmeri Sublepidodendron mirabile Hamatophyton verticillatum assemblage; 2) Tournaisian Sublepidodendron mirabile Rhodeopteriaium cf. hsianghsiangense assemblage; 3)Early Visean Cardiopteridium spetsbergense Triphyllopteris collombiana Adiantites gothanii assemblage; and 4)Late Visean Archaeocalamites scrobiculatus Cardiopteridium spetsbergense Paripteris gigantea assemblage, respectively representing the dispositions of Shashuigang Formation,Longjiang Formation, the lower part of Ceshui Formation and the upper part of Ceshui Formation.
