Abstract

Objective To evaluate the safety and efficacy of transurethral plasmakinetic resection of the prostate (TUPKRP).Methods The data of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) 102 patients with TUPKRP from November 2006 to June 2008 were reviewed. The weight of the prostate was between 28 g and 160 g.Results The operation lasted for 30 ~150 min(mean,65 min). The resected tissues weighed 12~112 g.During the operation, no transurethral prostatic resection syndrome occurred. All patients were followed up for 2~12 months(mean,3months).Average maximum flow-rate(Qmax) increased from 6.2 ml/s preoperatively to 18.9 ml/s postoperatively. International prostatic symptom score(IPSS) decreased from average 26.1 preoperatively to average 7.3 postoperatively. The scores of quality of life (QOL) decreased from average 4.8 preoperatively to average 1.6 postoperatively. Conclusion TUPKRP is effective with high safety and less complications.
