Abstract

Themorphology and histology of the alimentary canal and malpighian tubules of the larvae of Carposina sasakii were investigated using light and scanning electron microscopy. The alimentary canal includes foregut, midgut and hindgut. The foregut is short, thin and membranous. The long midgut is distensible with longitudinal muscles outside circular muscles. The gastric caeca are lateral diverticulum of the midgut. There are peritrophic membranes in the enlarged enteric cavity of the midgut. The hindgut epithelial cells are invaginated into the enteric cavity.Six long Malpighian tubules are located at the junction between the midgut and the hindgut exending freely into the haemocoel.
