Abstract

This paper appeals in earnest to the scholars of Confucianism for the revision of contemporary usage of two historical nouns,or for the differentiation of two signs in the history of Chinese thoughts. They are theory of and Confucianism.Theory of benevolence is in reference to the ethical thought as individual thought in the pre-Qin days, while Confucianism is in reference to the phenomena of synthetic systems and the ideology of feudalistic politics as collective systems in the post-Qin days.Confucianism had passed away along with the end of the history of feudal age. However, theory of benevolence is able to exist forever since it fits in with the general mental characteristics of human nature. The basic question for the strategic development of Chinese national culture is to establish theory of as a discipline in place of the ambiguous Confucianism.
