Probing into the causes of recurrence after Mesh Plug tension-free inguinal hernioplasty and Prevention

Objective To Probe into the causes of recurrence after mesh pluy tension-free inguinal hernioplasty.Methods A retrospective analysis was made in 41 patients with recurrence hernia after mesh plug tension-free hernioplasty.38 patients were male and 3 patients were female.Of them,4 cases belonged to typeⅡ、30 to type Ⅲ and 7 to type Ⅳ during the first operation.The patients with recurrence hernia were rehos- pitalized,30 of these were diagnosed to have indirect inguinal hernia,8 to have direct inguinal hernia and 3 femoral hernia.The time of recurrence ranged from 5 days to 28 months.Results 3 cases didnt find hernia sac;14 cases were demonstrated to have the Mesh Plug slid off the internal ring;5 had the sac with contents extruding from the internal ring along the Mesh Plug;3 had the heriniary contents extruding between two Mesh Plug;5 presented the sac with contents extruding below the Bard mesh whose position was too high;8 had her- niary content extruding below the Bard mesh due which was coiled and migrated;1 presented herniary contents extruding from the middle part of a self-made cone-shaped mesh;1 didn't recognize sliding hernia;1 was un- know.Conclusions The main reason of hernia recurrence in Mesh Plug tensin-free hernioplasty is related to a failure in applying the correct operative techniques.Rules of operation is important.
