Complications of channel radiofrequency in treatment of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome

Objective: To evaluate complications of coblation radiofrequency system in obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and treatment for them. Mehoids:Thirty patients with mild OSAHS were treated with radiofrequency by made channel in soft palate for 90 sessions; 22 patients with moderate OSAHS were treated with radiofrequency in soft palate and tonsil for 65 treatment sessions; 7 patients in soft palate and tongue base for 49 sessions and 2 patients in tongue base for 8 treatment sessions.The first 3 in soft palate and tonsil,and the 2 in tongue base were treated in hospital, and the rest patients were in out-patient room. All were followed up.Results:: In total, 61 patients received 212 treatment sessions; complications included palatal mucosal injure (4 cases), ulcerations of the soft palate or tongue base (2 cases), temporary tongue base neuralgias (1 case),4 of them were mild(4/212,1.9%),3 were moderate(3/212,1.4%),none was serious.Conclusion: Complications of channel radiofrequency in treatment of OSAHS are infrequent and mostly mild. Although coblation radiofrequency system is a safe procedure,its complication of tongue base should be payed more attention.
