Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between apolipoprotein E(ApoE)gene polymorphism and blood lipid in pilots. Methods ApoE genotypes were assayed by polymerase chain reaction-restricted fragments length polymorphism, and blood lipids were detected by stipulated methods on 106 pilots and 98 control healthy subjects. Results There were no significant differences in ApoE genotypes and alleles frequency between pilots and controls.Hyperlipidemia prevalence of the pilots was much higher than that of the controls. In the different ApoE genotypes groups, the levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol regressed in the sequence of E4/XE3/3E2/X,but there was no difference in triglycerides and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol among each groups. Conclusions AopE polymorphism is an independent genetic factor on the pilots individual blood lipid levels, and environment factors may be important in inducing hyperlipidemia of the pilots.
