Abstract

This experiment was conducted with the potted plants of three different maize hybrid varieties at three levels of water stress,and effects of water stress on water metabolism in maize leaves according to relative water content,water potential relative,transpiration rate and stomatal conductivity as guide line were investigated in three different maize varieties at three different growth and development stages.Results showed that water potential,relative water contents,transpiration rate and stomatal conductivity of maize leaves decreased as the increase of severity of water stress.Among these parameters,water potential and relative water content were significantly related to the drought resistance characteristics of varieties,however transpiration rate and stomatal conductivity were not the case.
