Correlation of mental health and personality of male nursing students

Objective To explore the correlation between mental health and personality of male nursing students.Methods Totally 105 male nursing students were investigated by using Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ).Results The male nursing students had lower SCL-90 factor scores than the norm of college students(P0.01 or P0.001).There were no significant differences in SCL-90 factor scores between male and female nursing students(P0.05).The E factor of EPQ was negatively correlated with the SCL-90 factors except for hostility factor,while the N factor of EPQ was positively correlated with the SCL-90 factors(r=0.687).Conclusions Mental health status of male nursing students is better than the average level of college students in China.The personaly such as extroversion and stable emotion contributes to good mental health of male nursing students.
