Abstract

This paper presents a method for the differential determination of Ars-enic(Ⅲ) and Arsenic (Ⅴ) in seawater by hydride generation-atomic absorption spectrophotometer using potassium borohydride solution as a reductant. Arsenic (Ⅱ) can be determined selectively in citrate buffer at pH4.3. Total Arsenic is determined after prereduction of Arsenic (Ⅴ) to Arsenic (H) with a solution of 1.5% KI-0.1% ascorbic acid. Most of the elements in seawater do not interfere.A sample size of only 10ml is enough to determine these species in seawater. The detection limit (twice the standard deviation of the blank) is 0.029 ng/ml for Arsenic (1) and 0.039 ng/ml for total Arsenic. The relative standard deviations is 4.2-6.0%.
