Abstract

Objective To study the pathological significance of p53 protein expression in rectal cancer. Methods Immunohistochemical techniques were used to detect the expression of p53 protein in 33 cases of colorectal papillary adenoma,32 cases of villous adenoma and 15 cases of non-tumor mucosa tissue. Results The ratios of positive expression of p53 protein in colorectal papillary adenoma, villous adenoma and non-tumor mucosa were 75.7%(25/33),59.4%(19/32) and 13.3%(2/15),respectively.The intensity order of the expression of p53 protein was colorectal papillary adenocarcinoma villous adenomas non-tumor mucosa(R from big to small). The lower limits of 95% confidence interval of R values in both colorectal papillary adenoma and villous adenoma were higher than the upper limit in non-tumor mucosa, and there were significant differences. Conclusion The detections of p53 gene mutation and p53 protein contribute to pathological diagnosis of early colorectal adenocarcinoma.
