MENTAL NURSING KNOWLEDGE,AWARENESS AND CURRENT SITUATION OF PRACTICE IN NURSES: A SURVEY AND ANALYSIS

Objective To comprehend nurses' fundamental knowledge and awareness on mental nursing,and its practice in general and specialty nursing. Methods Using a self-designed questionnaire,70 nurses working at departments of surgery and internal medicine at a grade-3 hospital were surveyed. Results The scores were as follows: score for fundamental knowledge of mental nursing was 8.57±2.39(total score was 22);of awareness was 49.81±6.00(total score was 60);of general nursing was 38.61±5.72(total score was 45);and that of practice of specialty nursing was 31.36±8.91(total score was 60).As compared among nurses of different working years,the implementation of specialty mental nursing was better in those who worked longer(F=5.21,P0.05);no statistical differences were found among different working lifetime with regard to fundamental knowledge and awareness on mental nursing,as well as implementation of general mental nursing(F=1.83-2.48,P0.05). Conclusion The consciousness of nurses on mental nursing and implementation of it are relatively good,but,in terms of basic knowledge,and practice of specialty mental nursing remain to be improved.
