Analysis on the monitoring of occupational exposure among fifteen nurses in infectious department

Objective To monitor the occupational exposure among the nurses in infectious department,so as to take security management measures to reduce the risk of occupational exposure among nursing staff.Method According to the guideline of Health Ministry,the status of occupational exposure in the recent three years among the nursing staff in the infectious department was assessed and monitored through five times of follow-up.Results Fifteen nurses suffered from occupational exposure(one charge nurse and 14 nurses).Among which,5 nurses suffered from first grade of exposure and 10 nurses suffered from second grade of exposure.All the exposures occurred when the nurses withdrew the needles,and all the pathogen was hepatitis B virus.The total rate of occupational exposure in the three years was 71.43%,and the mean rate of exposure per year was 23.81%.The infection rate after exposure was zero.Conclusions In order to effectively reduce the risk of occupational exposure,it is suggested to deal with the wounds due to occupational exposure as soon as possible and strictly implement the standard precaution measures.
