Buddhist Customs in Dunhuang during the Tang and Song Dynasties: 2nd-7th Month of the Lunar Year

Based on the Dunhuang manuscripts, the present paper deals with the Buddhist customs of the period from the second month to seventh month of the each Lunar Year in the Tang and Song Dynasties. The main ceremonies are follows: Setting up platforms for preaching Buddhist law in the 8th day of the 2nd month; Making streamers and writing Buddhist Sutras and worshiping Buddha in temples in the 8th day of the 4th month; Renovating Buddhist temples in the 15th day of the 7th month (i. e. Ullambana Festival), etc.
