Abstract
Objective To explore the best treatment method for tuberculous pleurisy.Methods The clinical data of 502 tuberculous pleurisy patients admitted to our hospital between January 1994 and January 2004 were reviewed and analyzed. Among them, 352 were given glucoconticoid hormone and 149 were not. The one-month absorption rate of pleural effusion was compared between the two groups. Results The absorption rate of pleural effusion after the one-month treatment for the glucoconticoid hormone group was 97% and for the other group it was 58%: P 0.05.Conclusion The early use of glucoconticoid hormone, in addition to the regular treatment of anti-tuberculosis therapy and draining pleural effusion, helps the absorption of pleural effusion.
