Abstract

Objective: To investigate the expression of cytokeratin(CK) 18 and 13 in ciliated columnar epithelia lining of radicular cysts. Methods: 32 radicular cysts were immunohistochemically examined (SP method) with CK18 and CK13 monoclonal antibodies. Results: The expression of CK18 showed in three different ways in the surface layer of the lining epithelia: belt-like pattern; segmental pattern; interspersion pattern. CK18 only detected in columnar epithelial cells, and CK13 detected in squamous cells. Both CK13 and CK18 expressed negative within the cells of basal cell layer. Conclusion: The multilineage cell origin in a radicular cyst needs to be further study.
