Effect of families' help and education on rehabilitation of heroin addicts

Objective:To study the effect of families' help and education on voluntary detoxification patients.Methods:One hundred patients were randomly divided into observing group and control group.The observing group(n=50) has received methadone orally with psychological intervention like families' help and education, the control group(n=50) received methadone orally only.Each group was evaluated by SCL-90 in different periods(when discharged from hospital and 6 months after discharge).Results:There is significant difference of the relapse rate between the two groups after six months(P0.01).The observing group is 65.79%, while the control group is 93.33%.The SCL-90 score of the observing group was lover than that of the control group(P0.05).Conclusions:Implementation of psychological intervention like families' help and education on heroin addicts can significantly improve their mental state and reduce the relapse rate.
