Abstract
On the base of introduction of the oil spill detection development, the principle of sea surface oil spill detection by SAR was summarized. The SAR parameters and other factors influencing oil spill detection were analyzed and the other phenomena related to look-likes slicks were also summarized in this paper. After processing the collected SAR images in the Yellow Sea the oil spill distribution was presented, the most of oil spills were around the main ship routes which were caused by illegal discharge of the ships.
