Abstract

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) was isolated from a porcine fetus and the mosquito. Isolated virus was injected into rat brain and passaged to isolate JEV. The virus isolation was characterized as JEV by hemagglutination assay, indirect fluorescent antibody assay, electron microscopy, serum neutralization assay and RT-PCR. The isolation was identified as the SC strain of JEV, with 98% nucleotide sequence homology with the SA14 strain.
