The Hard-wired Motivation of Relative "Yitou" and Analysis of Its Syntax and Semantics

Abstract

This paper focus on yitou which used to be common use as a relative in early modern Chinese,but seldom in modern Chinese.It discusses yitou from being a numeral phrase which means a(an) aspect/point/end of something to express two(more than two) verbs happen at the same time by metaphor.At the same time the motivation of yitou from meaning space to being used as a relatives by metaphor is analyzed from the cognitive perspective.
