Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and microvessel density(MVD) in benign and malignant breast lesions. Methods The expression of VEGF and MVD were detected in 60 cases of breast cancer-adjacent normal tissues(group A),51 breast cystic hyperplasia(group B),22 breast atypical hyperplasia(group C),30 breast carcinoma in situ(group D),and 79 invasive ductal breast carcinoma(group E) by immunohistochemistry staining. Results The expression of VEGF and MVD value were in an order of group A group B group C group D group E(P0.01).Higher expression of VEGF and MVD value were observed in the cases with lower tissue differentiation degree(P0.05).The expression of VEGF and MVD value were higher in cases with lymph node metastasis than those without(P0.05).Higher expression of VEGF and MVD value were observed as the clinical stage of breast cancer increased (P0.05).Conclusion The expression of VEGF is associated with the occurrence and progression of breast cancer. The expression of VEGF and MVD might be the markers for evaluating the malignant degree of breast carcinoma.
