【Objective】 To analyse the characteristics of coping style and explore the relationship between coping style and mental health among Taiyuan urban junior middle school students. 【Method】 A total number of 859 urban junior middle school students were questioned with Symptom Checklist 90 and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire. 【Results】 The students' average score of positive coping was higher than that of negative coping.For male students,the average score of positive coping of grade 2 was higher than that of grade 1.For female students,the average scores of positive coping of grade 2 and grade 3 were higher than that of grade 1.There was no significant difference between the male and female students' average score of positive coping at the same grade.As for the average score of negative coping,there were no significant difference among the three grades of the same sex and between the male and the female of the same grade.Both the positive and negative coping style might influence the mental health and the negative coping style might have more influence. 【Conclusion】 The junior middle school students should be educated to use positive coping style instead of negative coping style.
