Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of heat-sensitive moxibustion in treating metabolic syndrome. Method Ninety-four patients with metabolic syndrome were randomized into a treatment group of 58 cases and a control group of 36 cases. The treatment group was intervened by heat-sensitive moxibustion, and the control group was by electroacupuncture plus auricular point sticking. The obesity indexes, blood lipids, blood glucose, and fractional diastolic and systolic pressure were observed and compared. Result The two groups both achieved significant changes in obesity indexes after treatment(P0.01). After treatment, the treatment group was significantly different from the control group in comparing the waist-hip ratio(WHR)(P0.01). The two groups both achieved marked changes in blood lipids after treatment(P0.01). There was a significant difference in comparing the HDL-C level between the treatment group and the control group after treatment(P0.05). The two groups both gained significant changes in fast blood glucose, 2-h postprandial blood sugar, and fractional diastolic and systolic pressure after treatment(P0.01). Conclusion Heat-sensitive moxibustion is an effective method in treating metabolic syndrome.
