Assessment and prospect of induction chemotherapy in the treatment of head and neck cancer

Abstract

Head and neck cancers are a complex group of diseases sensitive to chemotherapy. Researches on the effect of induction chemotherapy in treatment of head and neck cancer have been for nearly 30 years, but the role of induction chemotherapy was still a subject of debate. Recently, with the improved treatment of advanced head and neck caner and exploration of more effective induction regimens, more and more evidences support the use of induction chemotherapy for advanced head and neck cancer. In this paper, based on reviewing the results of clinical trials of induction chemotherapy in the past years, we reassess the role of induction chemotherapy in head and neck cancer and prospect its future development.
