New Theory on Poetry of a Present to General Hua by Du Fu

This article regards that it is wrong on the opinion which has been popular since the Ming Dynasty that a present to General Hua satirizes Hua Jing Ding of exceeding his responsibility of office and using the ceremonial rites, regulations and music that the Emperor should have used, as by only reading a present to General Hua , the music referred to in the poem may not necessarily refer to the palace music. a present to General Hua is not possible to imply the sarcasm through the judgment of Hua Jing Ding's merits and faults, his attitude to the imperial court, and Du Fu's apprehension to Hua Jing Ding. From the inspection to the situation of the palace music in the Tang Dynasty, it was not probable for Hua Jing Ding to use the ceremonial rites, regulations, and music that should have been used by the imperial government. The wrong understanding of this opinion derives form the academic approach and the specific academic background which came into being in the Song and the Yuan dynasties. It comes from the incorrect adoption of the research method of using the history as the proof of a poem.
