Argument,Argumentation,Disputation——A Two-dimensional Understanding of the Concept of Argument within Contemporary Argumentation Theory

The understanding and definition of argument has been an important but controversial issue in contemporary argumentation theory.Based on a detailed elucidation of Daniel O′Keefe′s distinction of argument1 and argument2and a critical analysis of two widespread misunderstandings about it,this article puts forward a two-dimensional understanding of the concept of argument within contemporary argumentation theory.
