Abstract

Diffraction is so common in optical research. According to the distances between light source and slit and between slit and light screen, diffraction could be divided into Fraunhofer diffraction and Fresnel diffraction. Many literatures have discussed Fraunhofer diffraction of monochromatic light. Based the Fresnel principle of wave optics, we use Fresnel–Kirchhoff diffraction formula to deduce the diffraction formulas and do simulations to analyze white light diffraction patterns of single slit, rectangular aperture and circular aperture through MATLAB.
