On the Semantic Field of Existence in Modern Chinese

Abstract

The semantic field of existence in modern Chinese comprises specific words,such as you(有),zai(在),shi(是),and general words,including weiyu(位于),zuoluo(座落) and so forth.The distribution of such words depends first upon the arrangement of the location and the existing substance to the existing verb and then upon the semantic property of the location and the existing substance,e.g.the [+surroundingness],[+abstractness],[+holdingness],etc.of the location,and the [+definiteness],[+animateness],[+mobility],etc.of the existing substance.In a word,items in the semantic field of existence are hierarchical and mutually supplementary.
