Chen Yinke's Inheritance and Transcendence of Yan Fu's Thoughts

Yan Fu had great influence on Chen Yinke's thoughts.The modern notion of The spirit of independence and freedom of thought is jointly put forwards by Yan Fu and Chen Yinke who abide by this moral integrity themselves.As intellectuals whose thoughts are shaped by both traditional Chinese and modern western cultures,they are both open-minded to embrace new ideas though very much immersed in old traditions.Yan Fu holds the view that Chinese social and cultural reconstruction in the transitional era should combine the old with the new,while Chen Yinke believes that the old and the new,the Chinese and the western are complimentary to each other.Yan Fu and his generation are characteristics of the intellectuals in China's transitional era from the old to the modern,while Chen Yinke is a representitive of the modern intellectuals,who inherits and transcends Yan Fu with his life-long practice of new thoughts and ideas.
