Abstract
The shore reclamation created large area of land for the Pearl River Delta region. However,it also affected the hydrology and the shore evolution in the estuary. The reclamation process in the Pearl River Estuary from the end of the 1970s to the beginning of the 2000s was analyzed by use of the satellite images with multi-period data and hydrodynamic models. The influences of natural shore evolution and reclamation planning on the river regime in the estuary were simulated and quantitatively studied under coupling hydrology of different runoffs and tidal flows. The results show that the appropriate reclamation after a full consideration of natural shore evolution can still ensure the regular and natural evolution of hydrologic and hydraulic elements in the estuary.
