Abstract

Objective To build a digital model of the external anal sphincter by using magnetic resonance data and three-dimensional rebuilding technique, and to explore the anatomical structure of the external anal sphincter and the significance of the model. Methods Thin-slice magnetic resonance imaging was performed on 12 patients for a variety of gynecological diseases in Nanfang Hospital in June 2011 to August 2012. MR images were imported into Mimics 10.01 for 3D reconstruction. Results Models of female external anal sphincter and its surrounding structures were successfully built. The reconstructed model of female pelvic floor muscles was of clear surface and could be continuously rotated in 3D space. Conclusion The model can be used to assist the clinical and anatomical teaching,to assess the relevant external anal sphincter reconstruction surgery, and to research the biomechanics of the external anal sphincter.
