Abstract

A new reagent 4-(5-nitro-2-pyridylazo)-1,3-diaminobenzene(5-NO2-PADAB) was synthesized and characterized by IR and elemental analysis. The color reaction of 5-NO2-PADAB with Palladium(Ⅱ) was studied.Pd reacts with 5-NO2-PADAB to form a blue complex with molor ratio of 1∶1 in a medium of 0.36~2.04 mol/L perchloric acid solution. Its apparent molar absorptivity is 1.04×105 L·mol-1·cm-1 at the maximum absorption of 586 nm.Beer′s law was obeyed in the concentration range of 0~1.2 μg/mL for Pd.The method has high sensitivity and selectivity. It has been applied to the determination of trace amounts of Pd in catalysts with satisfactory results.
