Abstract
Winding and straight shaped carbon nanotubes were prepared on the surface of carbon fibers using chemical vapor deposition method. The morphology and microstructure of the carbon nanotubes were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The results showed that the winding and straight shaped carbon nanotubes covered the carbon fibers entirely. The winding carbon nanotubes were grown along the axial direction with a length of 5-20μm and diameter of 10-150nm.The winding carbon nanotubes formed a three-dimensional structure. The straight carbon nanotubes were grown along the radial direction of the carbon fibers with a length of 10-30μm and diameter of 10-200nm.The straight carbon nanotubes formed a uniform distribution on the surface of the carbon fibers, with obvious pore structure being formed between each carbon nanotube.Raman analysis showed that there were obvious bands at 1350cm-1 and 1580cm-1.The ratio of D bands to G bands was 0.352and 0.351for winding carbon nanotubes and straight carbon nanotubes, respectively. The two kinds of carbon nanotubes showed high graphitization degree.
