Abstract
An infectious bursal disease virus field strain, designated as strain SD,was isolated from a flock with immune failure.Using serological method, embryo inoculation test,HA,electron microscopic observation, the strain was identified as a pure IBDV isolate. The viral titer(ELD50) reached 10-6.5/0.2 mL;Four-week-old chickens inoculated with the strain developed severe clinical disease with a morbidity of 100%,and a mortality of 85%.About pathological examination, the most characteristic gross lesions were severe bursal haemorrhage and thymic atrophy,as well as the bone marrow with fatty change. So the SD strain was confirmed as a very virulent strain of IBDV.
