Abstract
In the new century,urbanization of ethnic areas and ethnic minorities continues to speed up,which is the objective need of development in ethnic areas.But this trend also leads to the development gaps between ethnic groups and the emergence of new characteristics concerning ethnic identity.By analyzing the roles played by ethnic identity in ethnic conflicts,tension in the process of nation-building in China,path of development for ethnic minorities with Chinese characteristics,the paper focuses on several theoretical concerns for the further study of the relationship between ethnic identity and citizenship building in the process of urbanization.
