Abstract

OBJECTIVE Side effect induced by iv infusion glycerol is hemolysis. Where hemolysis is because of catalysis of red cell and infused glycerol or other cause. METHODS Hence speciality of hemolysis of glycerol were studied in vitro. RESULTS There are no hemolysis in 0.9% NaCl and 5% glucose solution with 0~40% glycerol, but hemolysis occurred in them with 80% glycerol. 20% glycerol can antagonize hemolysis induced by distilled water in 1~2 min and 10%~20% glycerol can antagonize hemolysis induced by 0.3% NaCl and 1.7% glucose. CONCLUSIONS According to experimental result, may be hemolysis in vivo is due to renal damage induced by a lot of infused glycerol.
